This Junior High class meets twice a week in the lab. Students build a robot, then begin to learn about programming through a series of assigned challenges. They learn about input sensors (sound, light, ultrasonic) and how to control output (speed, direction, distance, iteration), before moving on to build and program robots of their own design.
The first challenge is called the Close Shave. Students write a program to make their robot travel a distance of exactly one meter, then use their understanding of unit rate to meet the challenge.
