Ride the Rock Cycle

Today we played the Ride the Rock Cycle Game  to help  students understand that the rock cycle, like the water cycle, has various stages and that a rock does not necessarily move linearly through those stages.

There are stations set up around the room representing a position in the rock cycle that a rock may reside (ocean, river, cloud, soil, earth’s interior, volcano, mountain). Student roll a die to see a process that will move their rock to a new spot in the cycle and keep a record of their journey. After their journey is complete, students are challenged to create a cartoon of how their adventures in the rock cycle occurred.
